Section 03 — Calculators

Means Test Math & Courtroom Costs

These calculators show you the arithmetic involved in bankruptcy. They do not determine your eligibility. Median income figures below are placeholders — each carries a VERIFY badge until replaced with sourced values from ust.gov.

Part 1 of 2 — Means Test Income Comparison

Your Current Monthly Income vs. State Median

Enter your gross monthly income (before taxes) for each of the 6 full calendar months before your planned filing month. The tool will compute your Current Monthly Income (CMI) as defined by 11 U.S.C. 101(10A), then compare it to your state median.

This is arithmetic, not a verdict. Being above or below the median is the first step of the means test, not the conclusion. If your CMI is above the median, a second calculation of allowable expenses follows. This tool shows you the numbers. The complete official means test form (Form 122A-1) is what counts. All median figures must be verified at ust.gov before relying on them.

Part 2 of 2 — Courtroom Cost Breakdown

Your Out-of-Pocket Filing Costs

These are the costs you pay to the court and to course providers — separate from any attorney fees. All amounts are VERIFY placeholders until confirmed at uscourts.gov.

Fee Waiver and Installment Payments

If your income is at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines, you may qualify for a filing fee waiver (eliminating the fee entirely). If waiver is not available, installment payments are allowed. The income thresholds are [VERIFY]. Ask your bankruptcy court clerk about the waiver application (Form B 103B).
